Gastroenteritis. I had it. Bad. From my other online blog last Monday...
My day of what seemed like a totally normal food, was soon turned around by a case of heartburn that wouldn't quit, that then turned into major vomiting in the kitchen, my bed, the bin, all whilst my bowels emptied themselves. I just got back from the hospital, after waking up this morning still stuck in the cycle of "trying to keep my fluids up but vomiting as soon as I got back from the toilet". I phoned the hospital about 2.30am because things were getting ridiculous. I couldn't sleep because I'd wake up too late and be stuck too far away from the toilet for the D and V. I got up and set up camp until about 5am downstairs. I had completely dried myself out and my body wouldn't let me top up my fluids. And the only thing I was producing was a bright flouro yellow mucus. I called the maternity ward and the call out GPs who, at that time of night and so early into a 24 hour period, couldn't do much for me, other than suggest topping up my fluids and sucking on ice. I cried and explained that I had tried that, and was still doing so, but at that present moment in time calling them from the toilet. They said to see how I felt in the morning. I managed to sleep on and off until around 8-9 and called and spoke to my lovely midwife who told me, if I could, to get into the antenatal unit to be checked over. I got a (bumpy) cab to the clinic and the ladies asked me to try and do a urine sample. I couldn't. I kept going back and forward to the toilet and couldn't sit comfortably because my stomach felt like it had been punched. I'm very very very rarely sick. The vomit stopped but I continued to wretch like a dog because I was empty. They checked me over, and then the bump and then cos something didn't go right and because Cupcake is a lazy barstard, they wired me up for about 40 minutes to monitor her heartbeat and movements. I still couldn't do a urine sample, so they took some bloods. I hung around whilst they sped through the results. Finally managed a droplet of bright orange urine, waited around to and froing to the toilet, and slowly started to keep in the little sips of water. Got looked over again by a midwife and a doctor, who said that my results all came back okay, Cupcake was oblivious but I was still not feeling well or looking well. They said that I could have a drip if I wanted, but I was looking like I was starting to hydrate... I said to be honest, I just wanted to go home and lie down and get comfy. They thought that was a good idea, but told me to go back if things don't improve. I was racking my brain to see what it was I had eaten, but after reading up and speaking to the doctor last night, it could have been something I ate two weeks ago and it lurked around until my body went NO MORE!
I'm much better now! But I wanted to share the drama that was pissing through your ass when pregnant and being wired up to some crazy machine at the same time!
